A coffee spillage in the cockpit forced a plane flying over the Atlantic Ocean to divert to Shannon Airport.

The coffee damaged an audio control panel (ACP), producing an electrical burning smell and smoke.

It created “significant communication difficulty” for the pilots which ultimately led to its emergency landing.

The incident happened on 6th February and resulted in the Airbus A330 flight from Frankfurt in Germany to Cancun in Mexico being diverted to Shannon.
