Earlier today, Tuesday, officials in San Francisco opted to ban the sale of e-cigarettes until their health effects are clearer.

The move has triggered outcry from some of the world’s largest e-cigarette producers such as Juul Labs, which is based in the city.

Juul said the move would drive smokers back to cigarettes and “create a thriving black market.”

The mayor of San Francisco, London Breed, has 10 days to sign off on the legislation, but has indicated that she will.
