The Taoiseach, the Tánaiste and the Minister for Finance are due to meet the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, in Dublin today.

The meetings are taking place at Government Buildings ahead of an EU summit of leaders in Brussels on Wednesday, at which the EU leaders will decide if Britain should be granted an extension to the Brexit deadline.

It is expected that Mr. Barnier will express solidarity with Ireland over Brexit, similar to German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s expression of solidarity last week.

Mr. Varadkar has made it clear that an extension to Brexit should only be granted to the UK if Theresa May manages to get a clear plan for the future in place, stating: “What we want to avoid is an extension that just allows for more indecision and more uncertainty.”
