Sinn Féinn have announced that they will table a motion of no confidence in Simon Harris, following controversy over cost overruns in the construction of the new children’s hospital.

It was confirmed on Sunday that Minister Harris is to apologise to the Dáil over an answer he gave to a parliamentary question in September, in which he failed to indicate that the hospital costs were escalating.

However, according to Sinn Féinn the apology is no substitute for political accountability, saying that he misled the Dáil, his government, Fianna Fáil, and most importantly, misled the public.

According to Fianna Fáil, supporting the motion of no-confidence could lead to a general election in a time where the country needs to prepare for Brexit.
