According to a joint statement released earlier, Theresa May and president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, had “robust but constructive” talks in Brussels.

The Prime Minister arrived in Brussels today, Thursday, for Brexit talks after insisting that the UK must not be “trapped” in a backstop deal on the Irish Border.

Talks will also be held in Strasbourg on Monday between Stephen Barclay, the UK Brexit secretary, and EU negotiator Michel Barnier.

The talks come after European Council president, Donald Tusk, said that there was “a special place in hell” for anyone who pushed for Brexit without a plan in place.
