Met Eireann has extended its Status Yellow weather warning for Ireland valid from 6:00 am Saturday morning through to midnight.

According to Met Eireann, it will continue to stay cold with severe frost and ice on untreated surfaces this morning and returning tonight to Midland and eastern areas.

There will still be some snow showers in certain areas, predominantly in the north and northwestern areas and some snow expected on higher ground of the north and northeast tonight.

Met Eireann also tweeted to say:

A very cold start today, with frost and ice only slowly clearing through the morning.
Dry in many places with winter sunshine, but there will be further hail and snow showers in parts of the north and northwest with snow lying. Some wintry showers will also affect parts of the west and southwest but these will turn to rain. Highest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees Celsius in moderate northwest backing westerly winds.
