Michael Ferris (68) was sentenced to 6 years in prison with a year suspended for the manslaughter of another farmer and neighbour Anothony O’Mahony (73).
The incident was over a device that was used to scare crows. O’Mahony’s family were angry at the 5 year sentence Ferris received. Ferris was angry about O’ Mahony using the crow scaring device which emits a loud noise to scare away birds. He had been using for the past 30 years and paid no heed when asked to stop. Ferris drove his tractor in O’Mahony’s car. The DPP are appealing against the leniency of the short sentence.
