The protests were over President Macron’s economic policies and rising fuel prices. French police used tear gas, water cannons and in some cases rubber balls to discharge the protestors. A trailer was set on fire and exploded on the Champs Elysees where over 5,000 protesters had converged. Signs that read “Macron, resignation” and “Macron thief” were held at the protests as well as the national anthem being sang. 22 people were detained by police.
