Ryanair to introduce charges for small bags from today

From Thursday the 1st all Ryanair passengers wishing to bring a carry-on weighing up to 10kg will have to pay a fee of 8 euro.

Up until today non-priority passengers were permitted to bring a small carry-on, such as a suitcase, weighing up to 10 kilos on board with them for free to be put in the overhead lockers or in the hold, along with a small personal bag like a handbag.

Ryanair say that the changes are necessary to reduce delays as putting the free bags in the hold led to as many as 120 bags being tagged at the gates resulting in disruptions to departures.

In order to accommodate for people wishing to bring the bags on board but are no longer able to, Ryanair have increased the permitted size of the ‘personal bags’ by 40%.
