Cold winds and highs of 8 degrees Celsius on Saturday started the long weekend off as it means to go on. Tomorrow, Sunday, is expected to be similar as a frosty start will make way for highs of 7 to 10 degrees. Longer spells of sunshine means it will not feel as cold as previous days but temperatures could drop to -3 degrees Sunday night, leading into a very similar forecast for Monday with highs of 6 to 9 degrees and cold breezes throughout the day.
The rest of the week is expected to follow suit but Thursday may be much colder as Met Éireann predicts highs of only 5 degrees Celsius for a lot of the country.
There is a high risk of icy patches nationwide, especially early in the morning so motorists are advised to drive with care.
