Storm Callum: Orange weather alert issued

Met √Čireann has issued a status orange alert for Storm Callum which is expected to hit Ireland Thursday night, bringing gales of up to 130km/h along coasts and the possibility of localised flooding. The weather warning has been issued for counties Dublin, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Cork, Waterford, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry. The warning is in place from 10pm on Thursday until 9am Friday morning.

A yellow wind warning is also in place for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Limerick and Tipperary.

Meteorologist for Met √Čireann, Siobhan Ryan, said that that there is potential for even higher gusts locally. She also emphasised that an orange weather warning is not to be ignored, “An orange weather warning is not to be underrated, it is a severe weather warning. Late Thursday night until Friday, there is the possibility of localised flooding. You’re going to see some violent gusts up along the coast potentially.”
